Congrats on the repair.
I can't tell from the picture but is the heli coil insert end 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn below the surface? That will keep the bolt from pulling the insert out.

I did this in a lower front motor mount (old style) on a 327 in a 57 Chevy. Naturally it was after the engine was in.... which meant I had to pull it again to get to work on the broken bolt...with the broken hardened steel easy out in the middle. I was able to get it out with small drill holes around the busted easy out.
Congrats on the fix!

Yes, the heli is about 1/2 turn lower then flush. All is bolted back together, rear PTO installed. I did change all of the hyrdo fluid. The controls are very sensitive now. Is this normal?

Hi, I don't post too often, but I have some input for this problem. My favorite local mechanic told me to gas weld a flat washer, I prefer a fender washer, to the bolt and then weld a nut to the washer using a fillet weld on the outside of the nut. This eliminates having to weld down inside of the nut. This will still work with bolts broke off a little below the surface too. I have a lot of washers welded to nuts with a little stub of thread welded on the bottom to prove that it works too.
BTW, how many fellow machinists do we have on here? I noticed at least 2 that posted to this topic. It would be nice to see a machine shop area on the site. I know I have made several parts and tools for my Cubs and I'd like to see what some others are making. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
