Default steering box

hey all i was wondering if the steering box from a 100 will work on a 102? if they are the same part, my 100 parts tractor dosnt have near as much slop in it as my 102 (almost a quarter turn or more) and i dont have the money for a full rebuild quite yet. thanks all

I'm not sure how complicated it is to remove, but don't underestimate the value of simply tightening it back up again. I pulled the one out of my original and found out that the nut that holds the steering arm was only finger tight. but, to make up for it, someone (not me) screwed in the threaded rod that rides in the worm gear to make up for it!

I simply removed the gearbox, unbolted the steering arm and topped it off with fresh grease. Then, I tightened the nut on the steering arm the way it should be, and THEN, adjusted the follower and tightened the nut.

Now the tractor steers very easy and yet, has a tight steering box. Once I get those two new tie rods on there, it'll be VERY nice!

If it's not terrible to remove, you might want to try that before doing a complete swap. There are good threads on here with pics to show you how it all fits together. Hope it helps.

well i looked under it today and it has grease coming from every possible place grease can come from, i just figured it would be easier to just swap out considering the 100s box is already out then rebuild mine as i get the funds to swap back in at a later time (having spare parts is really nice sometimes) but i will try that thank you for the info
