Default Newbie from Texas

I just got a Cub Cadet model 55 from some friends this weekend! I tried buying it last year at their garage sale but it sold. Well apparently the lady that bought it decided she wanted this other riding mower they were saling instead. So they called me up and asked if I still wanted it. Of course I did!! So I went over to get it, expecting to pay a little cash, and they just gave it to me!! This is my first Cub Cadet but not my first IH. I had a 1969 IH Travelall that I traded off for an AR-15 about a year ago. As far as plans with it, I've already taken the deck off so I can use to have some fun with the family. Give the kids rides and maybe pull them around the neighborhood in a wagon. I know I'm probably going to get some crap for not keeping it original but it's better than it just setting around and not getting used!! I want to make it a bit faster and I would like to put some bigger wheels/tires on it. I've been looking for a service manual for it. Anyone know of a free download or one reasonable priced? I'll post a pic up soon!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
