I talked to the guy at NAPA today about the $20.00 coil. The NAPA store is also a Kohler dealer. He said that the $20.00 coil is not made to take the vibration from a kohler engine as it is an automotive coil. He wanted to sell me the coil from Kohler for $68.00. Anyone know anything about the vibration thing?

Default NAPA coils

This is a late reply to the immediate question, but figured I would add my experience to the thread. The $20 NAPA coil I installed last Fall failed this spring. Since I didn't do much plowing this Winter, it couldn't have had more than a dozen hours on it. I went back and replaced it with the Kohler coil, also purchased through NAPA. It was a little over $70. It hasn't been through more than a couple mowings so far. Hit me up in the Fall and I'll tell you if it is still going.

I did buy the 20.00 coil, it didn't last. I bought a Kohler coil and am still going.
Spend the money now and get the right one for the application and be done with it.

I just acquired a QL 1450. The coil was bad. I substituted a car coil and the engine runs!!

I think I will relocate the coil to the chassis somewhere to reduce the vibration, the K321 is a "shaker"!!

Does anyone see a problem with relocating the coil!!??

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
