I got this k301. I heard some noise like the flywheel rubbing something.
the noise is from the crank bearings ( see video ) it looks like the engine was/is good. it just set to long wo/oil or being turned. there is rust in the bearings. so im not going to chance it and just replace them both. I need to know where to get a (good) rebuild kit and the crank bearings. its still STD bore with good compression. so I'll not be doing any block work , other then honing it for the new rings and pistion. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() video ![]()

yes, I'll replace the needle bearings and snap rings.
Ive been told to keep them out, but I think that could cause other issues down the road. there is a reason there in there.

None of them had provisions for the balance gears. I think Kohler rethought the balance gears and eliminated them. ![]() ![]() |

Both my K-301 do not have balance gears and run fine. If the low rpm shake is too much for you, raise the idle a bit. If you are that concerned with balance on a low rpm engine, Kirk Engines offers a balance kit for $24 shipped http://www.kirkengines.com/index.php...alancePlateKit |

That's the same guy I got my 128 rebuild kit and crank bearings from. Everything was good except the head gasket. I picked up an OEM head gasket from my cub dealer. Seemed to be everything was STENS.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
