Interestingly my Cub dealer informed me the old rods were part aluminum and part steel and would mushroom on one end causing this timing problem.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that's whats happened
What's the exact diameter of the new one?

Thanks

That took a while.

Both the new an old measure 0.185" in diameter.

The old aluminum and steel rod is actually longer than the new one, didn't look mushroomed.
It measures 1.562".

Unfortunately it doesn't look good for the old 10 horse
Still can't seem to get her running smooth, gonna have to tear her down.

Now I have to swap the tiller to the 147 and put the deck on the 127...

Is it possible that an incorrect, but "close" looking set of points were installed!!??

A new set of points may do it, possibly something on the point set is bent!!??

Look for the non-obvious!! Then take pics, we need the edukasion!!

Well, no need to worry about the timing now.

Seems the piston gave up the ghost.
Blew the skirt right off the piston, marred up the top of the cylinder wall.
Worst part is it looks like she's already 30 over...

Bad timing all around.
The ol 147 developed a hydro leak, need to tear into that.
Screwed up the PTO on the 127, destroyed the bearing and pressure spring.
and the electric lift spiriod gear lost a couple of teeth and won't lift anymore.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
