Well, she starts on her own now. I must have gotten something wet when I washed the engine to find the oil leak. Last night, I put my new, longer tiller lift pin in. I pushed the tractor forward while doing it. She rolled easy. Should the tractor move, engine off, with the release lever in drive? I'm still having problems with her slowing down going uphill, after I did the hydro mods suggested here.I also noticed she doesn't hold a steady speed while tilling. The only thing I need to do after reading several posts is shim the plates better. They are a little loose.

Sorry, my 1450. I'm not as fortunate as some to have more than one, (YET!).

Use your brake to stop it from creeping forward or a little reverse. Depending on soil the hydro may or may not hold it in place or consant speed. In my part of NC I have to inch the 1650 forward and hold my position so I can get the clay tilled up. It will change depending on your soil condition.

I guess I wasn't clear. The tractor was seting in the driveway, engine off, brakes not applied. I was working on it, installing the longer tiller lift pin, when I was able to push it forward. The release lever was in the drive position. I have the older release valves with the detent on top.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
