Personally I wouldn't want all that smoke blowing on me when I mow or use my tractor.

Today, I got looking at my pump...and I'm starting to think I was not correct of which screw would be the one to turn.
![]() Here's a picture...Does anyone know if it is the one circled in red, or black?

For all you want to do to turn the pump up will add power because its getting more fuel to conbust. However in the video that amount of smoke doesn't do anything besides burn up fuel. With it smoking like that you can be putting so much fuel in the cylinder that the engine is basically having to work harder to run, and you can also starve your fuel pump out of diesel, because the injection pump is sucking so much fuel. Thats my two cents. I am going to school for diesel tech so I don't know everything but I do know that "JUST" adding more and more fuel won't add tons of HP, because the rest of the engine has to be turned up if you understand what I'm saying.

A better way to increase power is to advance the pump. On the CNH tractors and skid steers I work on most of the pumps are the same. The only difference between tractors in the same class is the amount of advance. When replacing a pump on a unit out of warranty I have always set it to the higher end of the scale. Also the on the black smoke part of this disscution the extra fuel can increase your EGTs giving you a little more boost. Just remember turbos work off heat not off the velocity of the exhaust coming out of the manifold.

Thanks for the input, guys!
![]() If I turn it up at all...It wouldn't be more than half a turn or so.

you would want to turn up (out) the red one. The black one is just for bleeding out air from the fuel line.

Most of the farm pullers turn up the pump to add more fuel/power. But they also will add different turbos, lines, injectors, or even just having a turbo makes a difference. As stated before, you can add all the fuel you want, but without the extra air it's not gonna do anything. Adding a turbo will give more air to help with combustion and less fuel waste. Guys have added turbos to the little cubs and I'm sure have turned up the fuel. I've gotta couple diesel cubs, but am leary to mess with anything on the pump. They run just fine how they are.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
