LTX 1040 throws timing belt
My 2009 ltx 1040 has thrown 3 deck blade timing belts since I have purchased it new from TSC in 2009. It only has 35 hours on it, and has never cut anything higher than 4 inch tall grass. Each time it has resulted in destroyed blades and belt. Yesterday while cutting my yard, I started smelling burning rubber and stopped cutting and inspected the deck and sure enough, the belt had moved onto the wrong side of the pulley, and the blades were out of time. Is there something seriously wrong with this deck design? Or is there some sort of fix (TSB) for this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

khackee first of welcome to OCC. I do not have a lot of experience with the newer cubs actually none. Sounds to me like a problem is with one of the spindle towers. First I would check to make sure none of the spindles are binding or dragging real bad. Check the condition of all the timing pulleys. Make sure all the notches in the pulleys are not plugged up with grass. That will make the belt ride high and come off. Belt routing and the tensioner is other possibility's. All I got for now. My 1554 SLT would do the same thing. It was aggravating. I talked with my cub dealer and he said that was a normal problem with that type of mower. He suggested drilling a hole in the deck by each of the spindles close to the belt and install a long bolt to act as a belt keeper. It simply just keeps the belt from jumping off the pulley. A couple hours of time and a few bolts washers and nylock nuts fixed my issue. I no longer have the cub or I would get you some pics of the fix. I was not aware that cub had timed decks anymore. So your pulleys and belt have teeth to keep everything in time?
