As far as I know it's was not all that popular with the Kawi and I think it may be a bit tough to get engine parts for. Think I recall that they had cam gear issues something about a plastic cam gear but I'm not sure.

That's the engine in my 3205. It is a model FD620D. I get my parts from TEW and did not have a problem yet. Sam is correct about the cam gear. It was made of plastic and I have heard that they can fail around 500 to 600 hours. They sell the complete upgrade kit on *bay for the JD's and I think they can be had for the Cubs too. I don't think it is as good as a Kubota WG600 engine but it is better than any air cooled engine on any Cub. Mine is very easy on gas and runs great. I say if it is a good deal go for it.

My son has a 2086. We bought it from a local man that had taken great care of it. Look for the obvious things like any leaks both gas oil and in the 2086s case water. Listen to it run and check the exhaust for smoking. Operate all the controls both engine and hydraulics. Ride it around a bit and check for power and any odd sounds. So far the only problem we have had was some seeping of oil from the valve covers.

As with all cubs with the aluminum rear you should check to be sure the bolts that hold it in are tight/ not stripped.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
