John, the 1811's went for around $5500, the 1812's around $5800 and I think the 1512's were a few hundred more. Why someone wouldn't pay a little more for a motor that is 10 times better than an air cooled pos but I think diesel's had a bad name for themselves in the 80's. There is a blue book on tractor cost at TSC that will tell you the price when new.

I bought my 1572 in 1998. It is a 87 model. It was bought new at the dealer where I bought it and I saw the original invoice and it was 9500.00. My dad bought a 1811 in 1988 and it was 4400 and a 1966 102.
I just got to thinking. My neighbor had a 782D that he bought used in 1985 and I think that he paid 5200.00 for it. I used it to mow his yard.

I'll continue feeling guilty for paying $350 for my 882. Having owned it for a few years now and the benefit of hindsight, I'd have no problem giving $2k.

I gave $500 for 1990 1782 the msrp for it was around $8000. I'm sure mine was more because it had the 60in deck.

Keeps me awake at night.
![]() The funny part is I didn't know much at all about GTs, it was my first Cub and I was all disappointed it wasn't a 149! The lady listed it on CL as a Cub Cadet "lawn mower" so I snuck in under the vultures without knowing what I had, lol. I hope you get that 782D, it's a real dandy. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
