Default Hitch for a 106

I was planning on building a box blade
But have no hitch on the 106. I am new to
this so was hoping I could get some advice
I have seen the hitch that is spring assisted
That uses deck lever to operate. I assume
Blade will weigh about 150lbs will this hitch
Work ?

The hitch will work fine, but I think 150 lbs is a little heavy for a narrow frame, and your arm is going to be sore with a manual lift, here's my 106 with hydo lift and IH box blade, I don't think it weighs more than 70 lbs, a guy on here made some heavier repos copying the one i have that I'm guessing were about 100 lbs and everyone says they are about right. The tiller weighs like 220 lbs. or something like that and is not that hard to lift with a spring assist.

Matt, I bet it's not much over 150. I picked my #1 up to load it in my truck. its awkward as all get out. and is one big finger pincher for sure.

on my 582 with spring assist it picks up easyer then the 10'' plow

I've never lifted anything but the brinly with my spring assist, i guess the extra leverage makes it feel heavy. As long as it's kept close to the tractor it should be fine then

my homemade box blade only weighs about 50 lb and it digs into hard packed gravel pretty good when i add one cement block to it. i think its more the angle and design than the weight that makes them work. i can adjust the angle of min depending how much bite i want. looks kinda silly but works great.

Macman, do you have any closer pictures of the box blade? I'm going to either need to find or build one this spring; I've seen the cheap brinly 38" one at casa depot for $190, but I question the build quality of a lot of newer stuff (if anyone has that and it's decent, let me know). I saw that reproduction thread for the #40 back blade and that is nice, but I don't think I have nearly the resources to pull something that nice off.

X2 ----agreed. Spring assist makes lifting a tiller MUCH easier. (plus it's easier to pop wheelies with a tiller, don't ask me how I know that.)

The #1 tiller manual says 200 lbs shipping weight (whatever that means) with 1 extension. The other extension is probably close to 20 lbs, so assuming the gearbox is included in the 'shipping weight', it's still more than 150...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
