Yeah, I don't find them essential the equation. They came on mine and they were the first thing to come off because seeing what is going on and working on it is that much easier with them off. I don't think they have any structural purpose as mine were simply held on with a spring attaching to both side panels. Tires are much more important.

I have been told that the side panels may assist with engine cooling during operation. I guess if it don't overheat it ain't a problem!!

Thanks for the heads up on the panels. Seems like a good price. Might be a pretty hefty shipping bill, since I reside in Northeast Ohio though.

Congrats on your first IH Cub Cadet! You will soon find yourself bleeding yellow and white! I checked your serial # on the Louisville works serial # by month chart, and it appears your 1250 was built in April, 1979! Hope this helps. Good luck with her! Dave-proud owner of 1970 IH Cub Cadet Model 107, bought by my Great Grandfather new, in early '71.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
