they get costly if you need parts for them though. but...they run like a watch. i was proven wrong about my opinion on them when i get my Lincoln lincwelder that has an Onan CCKA twin on it (basically the same as what would be in a 982, 317, 318 or sears tractor) and it runs like a champ with a ton of power. id go the JD318 route. they are some beefy beastly tractors with more hydraulic options than any cub would have without modification.

The early JD317’s had KT17 series 1’s in them and when they started to blow up JD came out with a replacement kit using the Onan and later 317’s had series 2 KT’s but by then the 317 was known as a bad tractor because of the early KT problems so JD came out with the 318 with the Onan. Power steering and hyd ports, you could get a rear PTO and a 3 point for them also. Not trying to push you towards a JD but a 318 is not a bad choice if you have to go Green.

Oh don't get me wrong Onans are defiantly good engines but parts are kinda spendy and they're harder to troubleshoot then a mag. Or that's what I've heard anyway but I've never actually had an issue with mine (knock on wood lol)

Doh! That's the way it goes sometimes. If the 1450 has a rear hitch and the 318 doesn't my next choice would be the 1450. Just make sure it's in real good condition especially the ISO mounts and area around the engine. Look every thing over, check underneath for leaks, start it up and drive it around a while, ect. I know you're in Canada and prices are a little higher but if I was paying 1000 for a 1450 I'd expect it to be in excellent condition. Not like the junk I usually drag home

We go to Niagara Falls about once a year, for some winter down time. We were just there right after New Year.

Someone else can comment on the 1330, I know nothing of them.

But, those old K engines were work horses. My 10HP did this. That's when they used real horses, not ponies.

Just my opinion since I had all the types mentioned....If the price is anywhere the same for the cub or 318, go the 318...I love cubs but something said about power steering and the hydro connections up front not to mention the attachments that seem to be more plentiful out there. You can pick up rear PTOs, 3pt lifts, sweepers...ect...

Now, you are gonna pay a bit more for them since they think JD stands for Just Dollars.. I have a 318 that I put a Cub Cadet Kohler Command in...So I have the best of both worlds and the wife loves to mow with it....

Just watch out for a leaky steering column as they are known to go out with age and it is NOT an easy fix....The Onan if taken good care of should be good to 1500hrs. Seems to let go a rods near that time frame if they have been overheated or abused.

Is it a B or G series Onan....Meaning points or Electronic ignition...?

Good group. I know you will be back. Don't believe all the BS about the Green guys and the Yellow & White guys don't play well together. Both Cub and JD made some good stuff. Keep us posted.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
