I recentlg put an engine in my 682 but am having issues with starting it. I had it running last fall before I pulled it out of the Poulan that it came in. Ran it for several minutes without any trouble. When I first tried to start it, it fired, ran a few seconds, then quit and would do anythin. Had spark, but seemed ti be flooding. I found some trash in the tank, so I took it off and flushed it, and put a new line and filter on it. Tonight I tried it again. Had spark put it wouldn't try to go. It started to spit a little gas out of the carb inlet. I pulled a plug to verify that it was sparking, and when I hit the starter it shot gas out if the sparkplug hole. I pulled both plugs and cranked it and gas went everywhere. I shut the gas off and cranked until it cleared up. Turned the gas back on and after a couple cranks gas was blowing out of the holes again. I shut the gas off, cleard it up, but two different plugs in and got it to fire on a little ether. I turn the gas on and then it would go dead. Turn the gas off and it would start after cranking quite a bit. Once I had it running I would crack the gas open again and it woulf die I did this several times. I pulled the dipstick and it seems to have gas on it and oil seemed thin. I assume that the diaphram in the pump is dumping gas in the crank gas. Any thoughts? I don't completely understand why the cylinders load up with so much gas??

And rebuild the carb. The fact that you have gas "Blowing out of the spark plug holes" tells me that the float is sticking. Oh and change the oil.

It sounds like maybe you have a little crud under the needle valve,
The bad diaphram will fill the crankcase with gas, but a leaking needle valve in the carb, will fill the cylinders and that will leak down and fill the crankcase. I'd start by cleaning the carb and make sure the line is clear of additional crud. Then see if the diaphram in the pump is bad. Edit: Sam types faster than me Ha,Lol |
