It would help to know the price tag of each tractor. I own a 1863 and the steering is not as good as I would like to be. I the steering of my 1810 the best, but I am also use to power steering. I do like my 1863 though. I guess I am in the get both if the budget will allow.

Both are priced right I believe, the 1282 I can pick up for $350 and the 1863 for $700, I can one but not both right at the moment. But the 1863 will keep at least a little while. I'd like to get them both but I have to justify them to my beautiful bride of nearly 20 years, I've got 3 now, 1 in pieces(126), 1 running(107) and 1 she hasn't seen yet(125). If my place was bigger it wouldn't be a major issue but honestly a 42" deck is too big for my yard..lol Alas if I can make the deals work I'll get them both, but then I'd have 5...when does it stop???lol

Default Stop ?

Earl , It doesn't stop and if you think that you're gonna stop at 1 red one well, it ain't gonna happen either ! Go ahead and buy both while you can and deal with any other problems later. It'll all work out . Trust Me !

To me if you are getting a cyclops tractor, one of the key features you want is power steering, they have a great turning radius and combine that with effortless steering and you'd love it. So, I'd pass on the 1863 and wait for an 1864 to come along.

A 1282 for $350 is a no brainer if in decent shape.

I wouldn't worry about power steering, the 1641 I had could be turned with 1 finger. I put all the steering components from a Cyclops in my 1210 and it steers as easy as power steering.

My 1863 does not turn that easy, maybe some something wrong. But I am use to the Super steering and the 1864.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
