I don't know much about these but I suspect a picture would help a ton in identifiying the deck. One thing I do know is there were 2 different series of deck, one with the pulley centered at the front and one with it offset I beleive to the left, these typically had mule drives with angles pulleys. I may be off on the sizes but I think the centered pulley decks were 38, 44, and 48 and the offset were 42, 46, and 50.

Someone more familiar should be along shortly to correct me if I am wrong.

The size of the deck is considered "CUTTING WIDTH"

the pulley is centered so it must be a 38 deck (if the metal surface deck I measured was 4 feet --this makes sense)

The belt had no ID info on it either. I stretched it out and it measures 40 inches (80 inches all around)

Will this info help?

I'd like to order the belt but have no way finding a part number for it

I measured it this am before my workday-will have to uncover it again from outside storage pile of stuff tonight and post pics.

I'm working on a star trek teleporter but have not perfected that yet. Then I could post pics instantly when I beam myself 40 miles back home

If it is a centered pulley set up, then it is either a 38", 42". The 48" would measure way over 50" if measuring just the housing. If there are belt guards over the outer pulleys, then look to see if the pulley grease zerk is centered in the inner access hole on top of the guard or the outer. If it is the inner, the deck is a 38", if the outer, the deck is a 42".

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
