Default 60" Haban Restoration

Picked this up on a trip down south last weekend. I would like to use it but I was on the fence about it being worth a rebuild. After tearing into it I was impressed with the heavy steel and build quality. It has cut a whole lot of turf and needs some parts but under the crude it's very rebuildable. After pulling the spindles apart the bearings seem to be in decent shape. Is it wise to put the bearings while in the spindle housing in the parts washer? They turn very easily, just a little rough, I would like to clean them up. How can I tell if bearing replacement is more wise?

Ah, the great thing about the south. I have NEVER seen a deck with a rust hole!!

I see northerners welding up holes all the time.

I thought that deck looked very "usable" when we were loading it.

My brother-in-law showed me how to grease ANY type bearing when I worked there.

We drilled metal seal bearings, had a hypodermic needle that went on a grease gun for rubber seals.

Clean them, pack them, and run them!!

Rick

I've seen that deck! I'd pull it apart and inspect it. If the bearings don't show signs of problems put a new set of seals in it and go cut grass. Looking forward to your restore on this project. Holler if I can help. McMaster has nice wheels for the front for cheap. Let me dig up the info for you, it's posted here someplace.

Wished you had posted this awhile back ................I gave quite a bit of Haban parts away .

Agree with you on the quality though , it's a manufactured deck vs. a stamped POS . Those things dern near broke my back over the years .

Congrats on the deck !

Thanks for the help guys. A few parts and I'll have it slicing grass again. May take a while though...too many irons in the fire.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
