New tire chains
I just bought new tire chains for my old Lowe's garden tractor, because I don't have my cub running yet. Must be a sign, though, since I mistakenly ordered the chains for the cub's 23X10.50X12s, rather than the Lowe's 20X10X10. I had to close them up a bit and have a few inches flopping around, but no problem at the speeds I snow plow at. Can't wait to get my cub going.
Bought the 2-link chains on-line at Northern States Sales, out of NC for $57.37 ea, plus about $10 shipping. Got them at my door in about 4 days. Not bad at all. Seem to be good quality chains. At first I still wasn't getting enough traction to handle the snow, so I put my three-bag grass catcher on the back and filled the bags with snow. Worked like a charm. Oh, to have my cub up and running. We got 24" here in Stafford, Va. Heavy, wet snow with slush at the ground level. Question: Has anybody tried front tire chains? Once I added the extra weight I had problems with the front wheels sliding and losing steering capability. Wondering whether front tire chains would cure that.
