Things to check,
1 Maybe you have some junk blocking the fuel line in the tank
2 The fuel lines could be collapsing I would replace all of the fuel lines from the tank to the pump
3 It could be vapor locking if some of the insulation on the fuel lines is missing. You can try running it with the side covers off.
4 The fuel pump could be going bad.

Or, maybe a sticky valve when it dies. Does it still have spark?

Take the filter out and see if it will run. If it does, replace it with a screen style filter. I have seen on some gravity feed motors where there isn't enough natural pressure to push fuel through a filter. The screen style will work fine though.

The 2135 has a pump and the tank is under the seat. One more thing to check is to remove the fuel line from the pump to the carb and then crank it over to see if the pump is pumping.

I had the same problem, it ended up being fuel pump. Engine ran so much better, but I had to re-adjust carb settings. Fuel pumps can cause a lot of problems, I have come to the point when I have carb issues I Replace all fuel lines, rebuild carb/clean, replace filter, check gas cap, and fuel pump last as they are expensive !!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
