ok, I might get some flak on this but I run 15w-40 in all my equipment and tractors, never had a single issue what so ever, its also amsoil which helps dissipate heat which these kohler make a lot of. I have it in my 682,123,122, and soon to be in my 1450 when I decide to, plus in the bigger tractors and equipment. as far as hydros and gear drives yes hy tran is the best choice

For the past several years I have been using Cub Cadet Low Ash 30WT and Kohler 30WT without any problems in my K301.
This year picked up a 782 with a KT17 II which has Shell Rotella 15W40 in it. Ran fine and did not burn any oil. I recently changed the oil, added a oil filter and put in Amsoil SAE 10w-30/30WT 4 cycle oil. This oil is marketed to be a synthetic straight 30WT oil that has the viscosity of a 10w30 oil when cold. Between the hot summer temps and my hilly yard I wanted to protect the KT17 as best I could. So far so good. Chris
