Default Hydrostat question

I have a somewhat Hybrid Cub that I put together a few years ago, I bought a 582 special, 16hp briggs twin, it had a peerless transmission in it from the factory, when I got it the peerless transmission was in a box in a thousand pieces. at the time I also had a cub 1282 with a bad motor, so basicly I married the 2 together, I have built a small platform off the back of the tractor and have a 20 gallon sprayer on the back of it, I've got it set up to be able to use a spot sprayer or a spray bar with a 6 foot spray pattern. I use it around the farm and its has done an excellent job, now its starting to slow down under a load and speed up by itself, also when its off and tractor will roll if on a grade, I thought hydrostats were not supose to do that, anyway I have checked all the linkage and everything seems to be working fine, any ideas?

Hydrostats will roll if on a grade and the motor is off. Try changing the fluid and filter in the machine first. A lot of times that will fix your issue.

trunnion could be worn. or if the linkage is sloppy it could cause the trunnion to give a false response.

Try the easiest thing first. Fluid and filter change, and if that don't help it's time to get into a trunnion rebuild.

Agree with these chaps, I'm also leaning towards a worn trunion.

Have a look at this one, the corners are almost worn through when they should be square. A MiG welder will fix this.

As far as rolling off the hill, as soon as the pressure in the pump lets off, the auto valves allow the machine to roll so it can be moved. Always set your parking brake.

Well, did the drain and fill on the hydrostat, changed the filter, The trunion looked bad, got a hold of it with the welder and squared it back out. The bracket that fit on the trunion looked bad as well, so I had another on a bad hydro unit I put on it, now the question is what the proper way to adjust the unit, I looked in the CC manual for an 82 series tractor and couldn't find it, and I was sure if it was the same as the older tractors.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
