This past weekend I mowed my mothers and sons grass with my 1863 with a 317 48 inch deck. http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23814. I usually use a MTD 42 inch mower at mothers and keep a 42 inch Craftsman/AYP mower at my sons. Both the 42 inch mowers windrow the grass clippings much worse than the Cub deck and the Craftsman will clog if grass is not totally dry. Looking at cubs on Craigslist I don't see many with the 317 deck, mostly the more triangular ones. How do the other cub decks (ones I'm more likely to get on a used cub) compare to my deck.

I have an 1864 with a 46gt deck. Here's a link to a discussion thread:
http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25590 I don't care much for it due to it plugging up quickly. I'm on the lookout for a 48 or 54. |

Thanks for the link. It's rained every day (almost) in north GA this summer and I have had to cut grass that was not totally dry. The decks on my Lt's that I keep at my mothers and sons have clumped and windrowed much worse than my 1863 under the same conditions. This is the only cub I've ever owned but it's far better than anything else I own. I just wondered if all cub decks were this good.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
