Default 1572 or 1772 or current build?

I have the chance to buy a beat up 1772 with a 50" deck or a 1572 in great condition with a 60" deck. Money isn't the deciding factor the power is. I currently have a lt1045 that is my worker. i mow with it, i snowblow wisconsin snow all winter with it, and i'm rebuilding a 1a tiller with both extensions to run off a hydraulic pump mounted in front of my left foot to do my tilling. Only problem i see with my current setup is i live on a river and my 10 cubic cart filled with anything heavier than feathers is impossible to pull up my hill. Is the 15 hp 1572 going to be more powerful when it comes to towing or should i step up to the 17 hp in the 1772? Or just say to hell with it and continue wheel barrowing the big loads up using my legs because the power i got is more than i can expect. Oh, My current lt1045 is a 20 hp.

The 1572 will be more than enough to do anything you talked about. These diesel motors have insane torque and you will not regret buying it.

No idea what the $$ diff is between the 15 and the 17. The 15 is a very capable tractor as is the 17 but if the 17 is beat you will be looking at big $$$ to fix it. Just my 2 cents but if the $$$ is close I'd go for the 15 in this case. More info and pics would help us help you.

Both machines are a long ways from me and like i said the money isn't an issue because the guys are asking reasonable prices. The 1772 is kinda high but i'm sure i can offer a great price and get it. i really want a super but i've spent hundreds of hours getting my mower and the tools working properly. I like the idea of having a mower that isn't a throwaway tool. The way everything is built nowadays i can't see myself having this mower in even ten years but if i had an older cub i keep thinking they were built with better craftsmanship.

I've got both a 1572 and 1772. Can't really tell any difference in the 2 HP between the two. The 1772 is more collectable due to the fact they didn't make as many. These diesels in general are hard on drivelines. Doesn't look like either have a three point. Ask about the driveshafts, if they are tight, ect. Also have the owner take a 9/16 wrench and check the rearend bolts to make sure they are tight (if the current owners are willing to do so). They are notorious for loosening rear bolts and stripping them out. The Haban 60" deck is nice. If it were me and they were close in price, I'd buy both. C'mon now, you knew I'd say that.......... All kidding aside, going by what you're telling us and what you're looking for, I'd go for the 1572. This choice of course without hearing it run, checking it out for myself,

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'd also go for the 1572. Good luck with your decision.

I figured a 4'x6' pallet would hold onto a super. Am I wrong? Guy picking up the mower said if i can get it on a pallet less than 7'x10' he can pick it up and deliver it to me.

id take any diesel i could get my hands on. the 1572 looks in better shape with a nice deck. and i agree with checking the rear end bolts and drive shaft. if either are broke that could wind up costing you a few bucks to fix. i swapped the out the rear and drive shaft on mine. also be sure the power steering pump isnt leaking, that can turn into a fun project. if it were me and i found a diesel with all three of those issues id still buy it. for the right price that is. good luck

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
