I have a deck I am about to place on a 124 that still has the original wooden roller in very nice condition. Before I finish mounting it I would like to coat it with something to continue to help preserve it.
Polyurethane comes to mind but I presume tung oil once a year is probably better(polyurethane tends to trap moisture under it). What would you recommend? Thanks in advance! |

Definitely tongue oil . Any paint like product will do more harm than good in my opinion.

Hmmm. Good question. I agree that paint is very temporary. I have LOT's of finishes. I was initially thinking that a Spar finish would be good but what about others?
I ask because I found a small rust hole in my 44C deck so it's time to restore it this winter. |

I would put the 40+ year old wood roller on the shelf, use a synthetic one from a junkyard that will last forever.
The wooden one will be ready when you restore the tractor for "show and trailer queen" duty!! This deck has two synthetic rollers that have been carrying a 500+ pound deck for 25 years, and look like they are ready for another 25 years. ![]() Maybe it would be a good time to add the second roller?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
