I know this thread is 8 months old since it's last post, but being that I'm fairly new here, just came across this thread, and 100's are near and dear to me, I've got to bump the thread back up to find out how this beast fared with pushing the snow around this past winter.
Very very nice job bringing this thing back to life. Do you plan to restore the rest of the tractor, or just leave it as is? What are the stubs for sticking out of the rear wheels in the last set of pics? |

Thank you for the kind words. Its a work in progress, very much a worker tractor. It's nearly ergonomically perfect for me, so its very comfortable to use for long periods of time. I do plan to fully restore it, not to showroom level, but a nice everyday usable level. I have a number of options I'd like to add or build for it yet, then I'll go about making him look pretty again. The stubs sticking out of the rear wheels. They are a pair of old ruined coarse splined axles which I cut the splines off, drilled out the lug holes and put on backwards to hang my weight lifting style wheel weights on. It makes the little guy look more like a big tractor too. The axle stubs stay on all the time as they don't stick out past the ends of my 42" deck.

Ever since I got the tractor back together, I haven't been able to get it to run right. Throttle was pretty touchy with little control past 2000 RPM. Thought something inside the motor broke, so I pulled the motor to find that to be false. Was able to fix my oil leak though.
Reset my governor at least 4 times, still no avail. Finally figured out how to tune my carb - EUREKA!! Runs like a swiss watch now. Very, very pleased I must say. Got some new parts too. A standard canister-style muffler w/elbow, a new mount for said muffler, a Kirk Engines-style breather and a new steering column bushing. The plate for the breather looks like its purple 'cause it still has the red Dykem on it from when it was made. I'll paint it at a later date. A gentleman at work (I work in a medical machine shop) was kind enough to cut me a custom bushing out of Radel plastic which is close to IH yellow in color. Fits my goofy sized column tube to perfection! Currently working on a swinging-type grill mesh & a backrest with plans courtsey of Mr. ACecil. New pictures too. Enjoy fellas. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
