Just broke the pressed greased fitting on my 149 axle. Has anyone replaced these with new pressed fitting or drilled and tapped new fittings

The small size screw in grease fitting is 1/4-28 NF thread. The correct drill size is a #3 drill which is .213
|

So no issues with drilling and tapping cast iron? Are press in fittings and option?

My experience w/this is that by the time you get the busted one out (drilled or driven), the hole is hogged out so much a new press zerk won't stay in. And if you drill and tap, the new one will be screwed in so far by the time it gets tight it will be sticking ithrough into the shaft hole and you will have to file the inside down for clearance. At least that's the way it worked out for me on a wide frame spindle.

The press in zerks are junk. If you pump a little too hard when you grease them, you push them back out. spend the time and thread the hole. I have never had one hit the shaft.
