Default What should I offer for this 109 ?

They are asking $750.00 for this 109, tiller, snow blower, deck, and extra tires for rear.

Do you need/intend on using the tiller and snow blower? Does the tractor run really nice?

For around here that is high but it differs greatly from area to area.

It's nice to have the attachments but if you don't need them then you have stuff taking up space. You might be able to sell them to someone who needs them and get some of your money back. I have bought Cubs with attachments and now I have 4 blades couple of plows and disks that are cool but I doubt I will ever really need them. I will jump on a chance to use them if it arises.

How much will the Cub need to really get it running 100%? That should figure into the price. Around here I seem to be the only one that responds to ads selling them so I have been able to get a lot off after they have been sitting on them for a while.

Thanks for the reply and they say it runs. I do need the tiller but in Missouri the snow is somewhat fleeting maybe twice a year. Missouri is tough on good deals so I could probably sell the blower or thrower I don't know which it is for a good price.

Running and running like it should is two different things.

Yeah, but when it comes to buying, it's either running, or it's not. How well it runs really does't matter.

I think I'd offer $600. It's a pretty good buy at $750. It's not a "Lew" price, but it's fair. But if it doesn't start and run then I'd low ball it......

To me engine condition is the most important thing when buying a used Cub.

If it smokes like crazy then you're gonna have to try and find a good used engine or put another $500.00 in it before it ever gets off the ground.

Condition of the tiller gear box would probably be next (in this particular case). Then if the long tiller belt is there and it's condition. If the tiller gear box is worn out or bad then you're going to have another $150.00 in it and if the long belt is missing or bad that's going to cost you another $100.00.

Next would be the snow thrower gear box and the auger. Without a gear box for the thrower you would be hard pressed to get rid of it for any kind of decent money and I don't know that I've ever seen an auger for sale anywhere, probably better off to part it out on ebay if the box is bad.

Then the overall condition of the tractor and individual implements.

If there are many major problems with the group, then it wouldn't be hard to be in it for more than $2000.00 pretty quick (still not a bad deal if you are really going to use the stuff).

On the other hand, if everything is in pretty good mechanical condition, you could end up with a really nice outfit for less than $1000.00

You probably can't put something like this together with todays equipment for less than $6000.00

When buying something like this I never worry about the small stuff, although you can use those things to bargain with. The little things you can take care of as you go.

IMHO, mechanical condition of the most expensive parts and what it's going to cost to make it right, determines the value of the group.

Ask this guy to show you the "rare pto" when he shows you the tiller gear box... Say "oh that's the box for the tiller" and act like it's not a big deal.

Without saying very much, I normally check everything I want to check, shake my head a lot, then ask "What's your bottom dollar?" THEN let them talk... Uncomfortable silence is your friend. Most of the time they will talk themselves down. Don't be too quick to make an offer.

I really would like to see someone here get this group as it looks like it could be a pretty good deal. I have the feeling though that this guy thinks he's setting on a gold mine.

Good luck!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
