Default Snow Blade Steel Replacement

I have a blade for my 127 thats getting rusted pretty bad, a couple holes clean through. The frame is in good shape.

I am thinking about overlaying the blade with steel. I have some door armor plates, they are stainless steel used on hospital doors so that people can push carts into them without tearing up the door. Kind of like a kick plate only bigger and thicker. Working with stainless is a pain, I'm not even sure if I can weld it.

Have any of you tried overlaying or building a new blade?

I would rivet it on. Not pop rivets. The type you peen. Holds tight. Nice and strong. That way you don't have to try to weld two different metals together.

I have 42" blade that I'm willing to sell for $50 and I don't think it has seen any if at all little use.

$50 seem a lot easier than.......

Take a look around.

I agree with you on that. Not worth messing around, and cobbling it up for 50 bucks!!

Your AC buzz box welder will weld Stainless to stainless or to steel just fine. Get yourself some 3/32" 308-16 rod and have fun. Try to position the blade so that your welds are made in the horizontal position. Personaly I would rather weld stainless than regular steel. I've been doing it for 30 years though.:biggrin2.gif: Don't be timid about working with Stainless. It has it's quirks but can be a very rewarding experience.
Chris
PS. I'd buy the $50.00 blade myself

you can weld it with a wire feed welder using regular .035 wire, but if you can get one for 50 bucks go for it I just bought a complete one off ebay last month for my 1650 and paid too much for it . Not too many of them around in north dakota

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
