Well that makes me feel a little better My thinking is that they're there for angle adjustment for different series Cubs since they are "A"djustable Or possibly there to take stress off of the u-joints by backing the gearbox out an inch or so, but I don't see how that would make any difference, really. And I see your point about stress on the mounting flanges but at this point I either do it this way or the belt shreds, it really was a pretty good bit out of kilter. I will, however, keep a close eye on it.

My question is, is both of your throwers the QA-42A or just the QA-42?

And darkminion_17, what's your thrower mounted on?

I have 3. A QA42A, a CC42 and a 450. The CC is a different gearbox. Looks similar, but the mounting flanges are different.

(OK, well the QA42A is my brothers, but I've been using it. )

I did a little digging and found someone else who's made a shim for a 782 with a Honda repower (different beast I know but it adds credence to shimming the gearbox). And yes I know; he kept it mounted flat, but check out the other link I posted below. Scroll down, you'll see pictures.

And here's one more link I found that shows someone had to make custom spacers to make the QA42A fit on a 782 because the engine is angled up at the front about 3°. He did it slightly different but the end result was the same; an angled gearbox

Mine is mounted on the floor in the wood shed.
I guess after 40 years the qa mounts get bent from hitting stuff.

Are you talking about the bolts that stick out of the frame that the quick attach arms slide over? Mine actually did, too recently. To solve the issue, I just slapped a couple large washers on the outside of the bolts to hold the quick attach arms in place and bam, good as new

Mine has 2 shims on both the top and bottom. It's on a 1250.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
