The Brinkley will work on a NF 127 (hydro)and I presume a 147 since the frames are not the same shape as the 125 (hydro)and earlier NF's ?

All,
Thanks for all the info. I will look at my tractor to see if something will fit. I have the 3 point on it for skidding trees this spring, but it does have the hydro unit. I was looking at springs on McMaster and believe something there would work, but I will look at the hardware store tomorrow to see if they have something. |

John Deere and Kinze planters use two different springs on their row units. Both are the same style, and are available with different tension for the type of soil you have. One of the springs is on the row unit itself to help hold it to the ground, the other is on the furrow press wheels. They are different lengths. I think the spring that is really really close to the correct dimensions for a lift assist is part number G2054.
Here is a link to one from a company I buy from a lot. It's cheap, and I think it would work. (Click on pic) **I have not tried one, but next time I order from them I will buy one and see how close it is. The company is great to work with, you could call them and they would probably give you the length of them. Maybe even some specs.** spring.jpg |

I made a lift assist today. It by no means holds the blade up, but I will thread the eyebolt more tomorrow to see if that works. This is by no means professional, but I know it won't break, and it helps a great deal with the weight of the blade. I will get some dimensions if anyone wants them. The spring I got at the hardware store. It is a Hillman brand #PS-2 spring, 7-3/8" length, 1-3/8" OD, and .207 wire.

I had thought the bolt might separate, I have 2 in case. If it does I will bend it back and weld it together. The whole project cost $12 as a trial.

It's ok, my 60 dollar used IH spring doesn't hold my blade up either.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
