You did good. That looks like the good adjustable carb that I had on an 1811 that I once had. Here are some pics that might help you out a little. It looks like the choke is 180* off. What is the spec# on your engine? I think it should be 24506.
The choke cable on mine went towards the front and then back to the carb. DSC01882.jpg Here are some linkage shots for ya. DSC01895.jpg Here's what the pto should look like. Looks like yours might be off of a green tractor because it's a double. I would try and adjust the air gap first to see if that helps it. DSC01889.jpg Like everybody said, give it a good service, pull the carb, clean and rebuild it and you will have one of the best built GT's Cub made.

Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll be happy with it! After I got it going last night, I let it run for about half an hour to charge the battery and let it warm up. Went out this morning before plowing snow for work and tried to start it up; took a crank or two, but she fired right up! I did take a better look in the gas tank and decided to drain what "gas" was in there. Talk about brown gas
There's also a bunch of buildup "crap" at the bottom of the tank. Any suggestions for how to get it out?Quote:

Ok, after some thinking, manual searching, and tinkering, I figured out that what's circled in red below was on backwards. So I flipped it, and adjusted it till I felt that it was right. So, did I get it right?

Yep, you are correct. The lever from the governor to the carb looks like it is wrong also.

Update: as of right now, after an oil change, oil filter change, removing the fuel tank and cleaning it out, topping the tranny fluid, and fresh fuel, it runs like a new tractor. Starts right up, no whine in the hydro (after it warms up), and the throttle works like it should. I am THOROUGHLY impressed with this machine. I can't wait to make it do some work!

Look at the pic I posted. Your linkage looks like a piece of wire, bent to work.
Glad you got it running good!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
