Default Nothing is simple

I bought a "newer PC" and decided to retire an old Gateway (circa 2002). I am finding out, that simply going through a network, or using USB Flash Drives is not a easy nor simple task.

Getting the older files onto the new PC has been a major PITA. Coupled with software transfers, OS updates, driver updates, preferences, User ID's, passwords, e-mails accts, etc. I have been struggling with this for 10 days with another couple of weeks in preparation.

Geez, I think I see daylight at the end of the tunnel....

Which windows system are you running? None of the newer stuff seems to be compatible with the older stuff. Atleast it is never easy to transfer over info. My last two window systems were Windows XP and now Windows 7. Missed out on the whole Vista debacle and Windows 8(haven't heard good things about it).

Went from XP Pro (which I really liked but now unsupported) to Vista Business (ugh).

Window 8 is basically Windows 7 for tablets and touchscreens. The guts of the OS are the same.

Haven't been around it too much. I've heard it has "tiles" like a Mac. IIRC, you can divert it back to a regular window like the Windows 7 though. Pretty happy with the 7 and never had a problem with XP, was just time to update like Roland. Roland, good luck with the Vista.

You didn't miss much in Vista. For those in the IT Industry past or present, Vista equates to Windows ME; i.e., a stepping stone OS that was meant to be a cash cow but didn't really take off.

XP is still run by a great many people. It still controls roughly 37% of the market, 2nd only to Windows 7 at about 45% of the market. If you get the chance, try out Windows 7, it's basically a spit shined Vista.

Exactly. I don't get why places are selling it on none-touchscreen PC's, doesn't make sense to me

I have a mix of XP and windows 7 machines. I like them both, and give 7 the nod due to easier networking. I'm told by folks who should know that you needn't be in a big hurry to get rid of the XP machines, despite the loss of "support." They will be around for many more years....

Personally, I'm about to make the jump to linux for some PCs...just haven't decided on which flavor yet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
