I can't answer about the price difference, but I can tell you, as a Diesel tech, that Diesels generally make significantly more torque than a gasoline engine at the same rated horsepower, make peak power at lower rpm, and (all things being equal) tend to last longer before needing overhauled. My experience is primarily in the automotive and trucking industry, but it's the same fuel and same principles so I would expect it to be true for agriculture also. If you get a Diesel, maintain your coolant pH levels. Read that last sentence twice.

Just my 2 cents but equal tractors one being gas and the other being diesel I'd say $500.00 - $1000.00 more for diesel. I paid $1200 for my 2182 and $2200.00 for my 1782. The 1782 was in slightly better condition. Of course now I have stupid money tied up in both of them but I am not planning on selling them. Hope that helps.

I paid over $2000 for my 1782, and as Sam said, I put a lot of "stupid" money in it, and probably am not done. I'm planning on keeping it and its just a hobby for me. I would be in the poor house if I was doing this for a living.

Depends on location, condition, market....................
A cub in Iowa or Illinois may bring $1500 and the same cub in Pennsylvania might bring $2500. I've seen stuff on Epay go for crazy money. I've seen cubs at live auctions go for crazy money. You get two bidders, educated or not, getting into a bidding war, the sky's the limit. A seller can ask whatever they want for something they're selling. If it's unrealistically high IMHO, I don't even call or check out the tractor. If someone's willing to pay their asking price, more power to them, none of my business. Do I get frustrated with the price, yes. Am I going to complain and whine about it, no. My worth.

I gave some thought as to whether I would pay more for a diesel. Its sounds like something that would be attractive to me as a concept.
Then thought, no longer a farmer, this would be my only Diesel engine. So I would have to have fuel for it, separate containers, etc etc, and decided that I am better off with gas. Even if it does use more, this in a way is a good thing because it keeps my can fresh for all the other uses. Having said that, if one came along and stared me in the face I know I would end up dragging it home. People are funny like that. Which is my $.02 on the pricing discussion (I have done a lot of pricing of products, trust me, its not 'cost based' but 'market based', or even 'experienced based'). If I ever do actively seek out a diesel/super combo, I think I will just commission Sam to find me one. It will cost me more, but I think I would come out ahead in the long run. BUT - before any of that happens I need to REDUCE the number of tractors, not INCREASE |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
