Default How do you guys get a clean head?
I've got a couple heads laying around my shop I want to use this spring but they've got a bunch of dirty/oil/grease/grime/carbon buildup on them. Since I've got time to work with, what's the best way you guys have come across to get that buildup off of them? I've heard soak in water over night, I've heard soak in carb cleaner over night, among other things. Anything that's worked better than another for you guys?

Clean them in a parts cleaner (mineral spirits/lacquer thinner) then bead blast them. After cleaned and blasted, plane it off!

I've always used Super Kleen degreaser in purple jug from Wally World. Wear safety glasses and gloves/protective wear. It remove the oil from your skin and the next day you will peel like a snake. Just spray, set, wipe off-repeat as necessary.

Might want to be careful soaking in carb cleaner for too long, some of the really good stuff will eat the aluminum away, if they even make the good stuff anymore.

I think I'll take you up on soaking them in parts cleaner, I'll probably go the mineral spirits route. As far as bead blasting, will there really be that much left after a soak and scrub in a solvent? I ask because I don't have a bead blaster
