Have a sonicare toothbrush? I pop the neodymium magnets off before I throw out an old brush head because I save everything (drives my wife nuts). I would think you could super glue/epoxy one of these to your drain plug. They are sticky little suckers so the glue may be overkill on a steel plug. I haven't tried this and someone may give a good reason to never try it, just an idea.

I didn't bother to look at the prices, just did a google "Magnetic drain plugs" and this came up. I used to use mag plugs in the rear and trans on my race car. Also had magnets glued in the lifter valley of the engine to pickup junk from the valve train. The pic is of the plugs I had in the quick change rear.

I noticed they have a magnet you can drop into the filter!

A quick fix might be to just put flat magnets on the exterior of the oil pan where space will accommodate them. This would depend on the strength of your magnet, though.
