One thing on the mule drives and tillers.........
The mule drives for the decks have the pulleys at a slight angle due to the offset of the center drive pulley on the decks. The mule drives for the tillers had the pulleys straight, not angled. Now I used to run a #2 tiller on my 149. I used the 149's mower deck mule with the angled pulleys and didn't have any issues. The belt ran on it fine and never came off. So it is doable. Just remember those looooooong belts from CC are $85 last time I checked. Well worth the money and will last forever. Someone correct me if I'm wrong..........

![]() Besides that, in the summer I have one dedicated mower, and one for "other" tasks; pulling a cart, aerating, de-thatching, etc, etc. (I know I could do it all with one machine, but where's the fun in that!? ) And finally, I want to have a backup around. I know these things don't last forever so when one dies out, hopefully a long, long time from now, I want to be able to keep working without missing a beat.So there, phew! That's why I want 2 around ![]() That being said, I've got a head gasket to replace on the 1450 hopefully sooner rather than later (finally got the part in), and I want to pull the carb apart AGAIN and clean it. If I can get the machine running smoother, I may keep it, who knows. It'd only get used really once a year when tilling so I may still get rid of it. It all really does come down to getting the tiller I have mounted to an 1811 so I'd need an adapter built or get lucky and find one online that costs less than a first born.

Even if it doesn't work, mule drives are NBD to find. Josh, your right about the belts. Thing is to set up for an 1811 he won't be able to get a belt from CC. I tried running the mower mule drive on mine for a while. The pulley angle wasn't a problem, as in, it didn't kick the belt, but man oh man did the belt get hot!

We were talking about using mule drives from the 1450 or 1811. By this era, decks were in the 44 and 50 range. I suppose the 1450 could have an earlier deck/mule drive combo. Just assumed we were discussing the later mules.

True enough. I apologize for the off topic rabbit trail. I guess I was trying to make a point that didn't need to be made.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
