It ran ok but sure liked to smoke, and a little down on power. About two, three years ago it swallowed up a carburetor screw. Made it out the muffler but not without a little damage.
Well this NOS 14hp Command came up on CL for a very good price. It was a pull start engine so I needed to change everything over from the 12.5 electric. First hiccup was that the stator mounting holes were not tapped, and two were missing so I needed to drill two holes and tap four, pretty easy fix. Needed to take the fuel pump off the 14 because it would interfere with the muffler, that I needed to use from the 12.5 to clear the hood, then make a plate cover for the fuel pump hole. Mount the ring gear flywheel and starter, I also reused the flywheel cover from the 12.5. (sleeper) It fired right up ![]() ![]()

Pressure washed it after the engine was out. Yeah, I know the floor was dirty, windy day and all the crap from the trees blew in. Thanks guys. Had it out mowing the lawn today. A lot more power than the old worn out 12.5, but still took 4 hrs.

Very cool, I have a 12.5 command and a newly aquired 14 command with fuel pump labeled as a craftsman but came on a murry frame (both mowers free). And the 14 probably needs carb cleant but it runs on spray

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
