Through the process of swapping from an aluminum rear to a cast iron, I was able to use what I had for bolts. Then I got to the four bolts(two on each side) that bolts through the frame and axel housings( not sure if there is a proper name) anyway the bolts from the aluminum rear bottomed out on the right side just before getting to the bolt head, the lefts bottomed out a lot sooner. Just thinking someone may know what length of bolts I would need. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Well, if the bolts bottomed out..... It shouldn't be hard to figure it out. Just measure how much too long they are and shorten them by about a 1/8" to a 1/4" more. That was easy.

I just didn't know if they were bottoming out against the casing or if there was something important behind them. I've never had one apart. Sorry for the foolish question, I just didn't want to tear something up.

No, I didn't have the right bolts to start with. The aluminum rear had longer bolts that were the same on both sides. The cast iron rear I put in was purchased seperate. When I pulled the bolts out of the aluminum hy-tran leaked from the bolt holes hence my concern of too long a bolt.

I'm still confused. If you bought another axle..... didn't it have bolts in it? Or were they missing? And, the oil level in the old axle shouldn't have been high enough to make it leak out of the top holes.
CI rear end: One set of bolts is longer than the opposite side. Book says they are 1.25" for the short side, and 2.5" on the long side. |

Thank you for your time... And answer. The top two were missing from both sides where the frame bolts up. I thought I had better take the safe and not sorry route and ask. Again I thank you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
