My grandma has been wanting a nicer mower the last few years. She does not like grandpas 1250 that he removed all of the side shields, hood, grill, and tunnel cover from. It does look kind of hideous I do say so my self.
At any rate, I had been looking on CL and found a sharp looking 2284 up in Wisconsin so I called the guy to ask about it. Turns out he had two, one with the 60" deck, and the other had a two stage snow blower, both looked immaculate. We had a guy bring it down to Blair NE were we met up to bring it home. It would not start...until I sat in the seat, after we took it to a local small engine repair shop. We did find a rather large oil leak coming from the intake gasket (don't know if that is the correct term) which dad has had experience with. After he fixed that, we had some other issues that nightow1 helped me with. Took the machine out yesterday and mowed with it, worked great. It did yield a valve cover gasket leak that needs to be dealt with immediately. This winter I will bring it into the shop to replace the front wheel bearings, tie rod ends, repair the worn out plate for the hydrostat control, pull the rear end and drill the drain back holes, and install the Sam MAC TRUCK braces. Here is a picture of the 2284 after I mowed my yard. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
