No valve equipment. Gonna need at least one new valve if not both exhaust valves. The manual says that if doing valve work on these engines the exhaust valve has been updated and both valve and seat need to be replaced.I'll have to take it somewhere. Do you think I should pull the jugs off and just take them in? That way I can check the pistons and rings.

You can go to the expense and trouble of pulling the jugs but I'm afraid something may happen down the road that will waste all the work. I'm not a big fan of doing a partial rebuild. To me, it's all or none. And, you may fix it and it run for 10 years. I'll say this the same way I'd tell a customer. If it was mine.... I'd take the whole engine in and see if they could do a valve job. Slap new ones in (if they can't be ground, which it looks like the head on the one valve you posted is bent), grind the existing seat and go on. Or do a complete rebuild. Your choice. That is what I recommend. Just my

Jonathan suggested just doing a valve job and leave it alone. But no I had to tear it apart! still haven't got it back together (no time) parts are ridiculously pricey. And of course while the engine is out might as well fix this, clean up that, etc. etc. No problems yet though. If work slows down a little I will get it done.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
