Default K301 Head Gasket

Anybody here can see why I'm liking my old head gasket better than the new? Or, am I being paranoid?

The older head gasket has a compressible metal band around the inner perimeter of the gasket. The new does not. The old is the original gasket from Kohler and came with the NOS motor I bought a couple years ago. The new came from a GOOD small engines repair shop who has a good deal of IH Cub Cadet parts in stock.

Kohler is not the only one that has done away with the fire ring. Last Vanguard gaskets I bought also didn't have fire rings. Midwest Super Cub has copper head gaskets.

Alright, thanks for the info. Probably don't need a fire ring since motor is not hopped up but I'll probably go straight for one with fire ring next time. Me thinks is another way to cheapen things up and be OK with it. grrrrr.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
