Default Can the 2518 handle light grading?

I know this is the garden tractor forum, but in one month I got 1 response on the lawn tractor forum and it was a welcome message. My 2518 has the shaft drive and cast iron hydro xmission similar to some of the garden tractors. I would like to fabricate a sleeve hitch and do light grading on my gravel drive and maybe light landscaping. Has anyone had any good or bad experience with that?

There does not seem to be much written about the 2518, here or elsewhere, that I have found; guess these were not very popular models or they're all dead! I love mine, got it at an estate sale a few years ago for about $850, with only about 150 hours on it.

Parts tree shows a snow blade and a tiller for the 2518 so my guess is that as long as your easy on it you should be OK.

Welcome Tim from another member from Georgia! Sam is correct. The 2518 can do light duty ground engaging work. You do have the cast iron rear but IIRC the hydro pumps are not heavy duty so as long as you don't abuse it you should be fine. Your tractor is considered a garden tractor too.

Thanks for that info Oak. I had heard something similar in another forum but never saw any references to anything authoritative. I suppose all that documentation has faded from circulation for the most part. Hearing it from people here gives me more of a warm and fuzzy about the situation.

Sam,

Where is this parts tree? Is it on OCC someplace?

Thanks,

Tim

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
