Default Going to look at a 1864

I am planning to look at a 1864 this weekend, it has dual hydraulics, 48" deck, snow blade with hydraulic power angle, wheel weights and chains. It has a little over 800 hrs. on the clock. It looks in decent overall condition, the plastics are OK except for a broken louver slat on the hood and the side panels covered with NASCAR stickers. I know the usual drill of what to look at on a Cyclops, anything else I need to look at on this particular model. I never had a Cub with a Command engine , only Magnum and Kawasaki engines so far. He is asking $850, sound right?

If you want it, decent deal. Look for blown head gaskets and leaky front/rear crank seals.

IMO, best CC ever made and the best mower deck of the bunch including the sister 54" deck.

To put it simply; if it runs well, everything works, and no major mechanical issues, at that price, get it! You will not regret it. My 1864 has become one of the few I will not part with.

Do all the 1864's have dual hydraulics or was that an option? Its good to hear the 48" deck is good design, I was attracted to this unit because it had a smaller deck. I have 2 supers one with a 60" and the other with a 54" deck and they leave me with a lot of trimming because I can't get around trees close to the fence line.

Dual hydraulic was an option, but not standard. As far as options go, it's a good one to have

Edit: The biggest thing you will notice about the 1864 is the tight turning; I have a Super with a 54" and an 1864 with a 54" and without a doubt, the 1864 is able to negotiate much tighter areas easier. It's an excellent choice for a mowing machine.

Exactly right!

I have both tractors/decks also and for cutting grass around tight areas, the 1864 is not only better than a Super, it's better than any other Cub I have ever mowed with not counting the 1862 I have with the 1864 style front axle with a 54" on it.

The 54" seems to cut tighter than the 48" mower.

When I put power steering on my 1811 I used an 1864 front axle and spindles. There was an improvement in the turning of my 1811 after that. Not a fan of the plastic but it has to be a great tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
