Any chance we can get you to show both of these winch setups in the attachments sections. I'd like to see how you made that plow setup. How is the speed on this? I plan to add a spring assist to my tractor. I've heard from some folks that the winch is kind of slow and not great if you need to lift/lower the plow often.

Mike It does have a posstive brake on it. I would not trust any winch for overhead lifting. I use mine for my jib crane on my log splitter. It would lift a round 3 foot in diameter no problem. The cable is 50 feet long.
I have the old style remote. There is also a delay from when you release the button.

Thanks. I went to the HF store the other day with intentions of buying one. I saw on the box it had a brake on it.

I looked around a little and saw they had three different hoists. The 880 lb hoist was a $129 and I had a 20% off coupon so I got the hoist for $109. I have a barn loft I want to store some heavy parts in. The winch would have worked. The shortcoming being I would have to supply battery power anytime I wanted to use it. I guess that's the main reason I passed on the winch.

Yeah I know winches are not generally regarded as safe for lifting devices.

For all the firewood rounds I put on this winch it never unwound or lowered a round. I have worn out the rear bushing holder because it was make of plastic. It's only a brass bushing in a plastic housing. If they made it a bearing I would think it would be better.

Default 11 days later...

The winch arrived this morning. I knew it was on the way only because I saw the charge on banking site. I wish HF would have sent some emails to accompany the backorder, but it is what it is and it's here.

The fellow who delivered my 682 had one of the larger HF winches on his car trailer. He tried the smaller one but it burned out on the first car.

I expect they will work well for less demanding applications.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
