Default Cadet 268 Snowblower

I had been keeping a lazy eye out for one of these and finally hit pay dirt. It's in great operating condition and I think I got a real good deal on it, too! February of '72. Now I just need snow!

Great score!!! I have a 268, too, and it has handled some monstrous snow drifts! The steel is a whole lot more solid than what they make today. You are going to be greatly surprised at the power behind that blower. I'm scheduled to get up to 5" of the white stuff soon. Hope you get a lot of it, as well!

The 268 was made by Ariens, That said it should be every bit as bullet proof as the Cubs were.

Nice find.

Here's a link to Ariens History

Default 268

Hi guys, I just signed up. I have a 268 here in Illinois. I tore it down about six years ago and re painted the whole thing. I also added rubber extensions to the fan to close up the gap in the housing. It's a 8hp slush pump now! Wish I knew how to post pics, it looks good.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
