did you check the oil level after you got home? running rich and smelling of fuel could be a crankcase full of gas.

No, I didn't. I checked the oil at his place and it looked good. Didn't check it again when I got home. It only ran long enough to get it off the trailer and into the garage. Ill check it again in the morning but I don't plan on starting it again until I figure out whats up with the carb. I do plan to change the oil and filter as well.

Upon further inspection in the daylight, I think Im just ignorant to how the plow blade works. I assumed it was raised and lowered from underneath like the deck. Now Im assuming it raises and lowers via the linkage that connects near the right floorboard. That would explain why the indicator has been removed and the home made bracket was one like the one linked from Ebay.
I also noticed the tires say Cub Cadet on them so Im assuming these were the tires that came on the tractor when it was new. New tires are gonna be a must. Im still taking suggestions. Seems turfs and ags are priced about the same. I suppose I don't really need ags as my yard is relatively flat and this will mainly be a mowing machine but Im sure it will be helpful for pushing snow. Again, all suggestions are welcome. The battery purchase sticker says 1/08 so its definitely an old one. On my way to get a battery this afternoon. Didn't get to tinker with the carb because its only 5 degrees out but I did notice the choke cable is junk and that may be part of the problem as well. Where can I get a new choke cable? This thing is looking like it has enough minor issues that Im going to tear it down and clean it all up. Replace all the old fuel lines, etc. May even have a buddy straighten the fender pan up and put some new paint on it. I took a few pics, Ill post them once they are uploaded to the computer. Thanks! |

Yes, I am excited! Still a little bummed that its not ready to work but no big deal. Everything seems minor.
Heres a couple pics. One is the home made bracket we discussed earlier. |

If someone could point me in the right direction to download a manual for the tractor and the deck, Id appreciate it. Its a 54" GT deck. I checked the technical area of the site but didn't see it. Maybe I overlooked it? Mainly looking for part numbers so I can cross reference. Thanks.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you the service manual for the Cyclops series tractors. Trust me a little work and a few $$$ will be well worth it for a god running 1864. Looks pretty good in the pics, congrats.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
