Hi all,
I'm a complete newbie to ride on mowers, Cub Cadets and indeed onlycubcadets.net, so please excuse my naivety in posting about a problem on my first post. The truth is, I've had the mower a month, it was 2nd hand, 2 years old with 80hrs running time. I don't know long mowers last etc. but it was a reasonable outlay so I'd like to get my monies worth. I'd love to post positivity here but I'm finding it hard! In my last month, I've had two flats, a puncture, I over choked the engine once, so I thought I'd broken down!, I sucked up some plastic mesh with the PTO on - got stuck, heated up, made a mess but recovered it all fine, another time I left they key in so got a flat battery, I've changed the oil at 100hrs and now wont move at all. Ps there were a few cuts in there too, I even bought a trailer. My problem - After the flat battery situation, I had it parked up (got a flat and changed the oil too). Went to run and started up perfectly, you beauty, sounds good. Wont move at all, EVEN WITH THE HYDRO BYPASS. The noise when running is the same as always when I press the forward, backward peddles but nothing happens. When I use the hydro bypass to try to free wheel it out to have a look, wont budge. The unit rocks about an inch forwards or an inch back, but there seems to be something more happening it just resists as if it is still engaged. I have read posts about the brake being on, the belts having snapped etc but I have checked all that I can see and we seem good. Does anyone have any ideas or anything that I can give a go? I don't really want to spend a load after having just bought it and it would be a pain to get onto a trailer too! Please could someone with more experience than I help me out. Kind regards and complete respect to replies. Thanks all, Hockausyak |

![]() It would sure help us out if we knew what model of tractor you have. ![]()

I see from the tags you have a LT1042. These are as we call them big box entry level Lawn Tractors. Being honest I have not worked on one of these. About all I can see for possibilities are a problem with the belt, the hydro release being in the released position or a problem internally in the trans/hydro unit. This is a link to the MTD manual where you can download the manuals for your tractor. You'll need the model and serial number.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
