Default the 1641

Picked this 1641 today at an auction 350 hrs,46" deck, loaded tires, they said the motor was locked up but I knew better that it may be the starter.
I removed the bottom bolt on the starter by just pulling on it.oh boy.
So I pulled the motor and removed the flywheel and found a piece of the starter and the piece of the block that broke off jammed in there keeping the flywheel from turning.

I have a fix for the starter, there is a threaded hole in the block just below the starter. Any ideas?

Put it back together and see if it runs.

Very nice find! I'm sure you'll figure something out. I've used a lot of these in the past, http://www.pemnet.com/

Deck on my 1641 with its' new PTO is working great. R&R'd the deck belt. Now a new PTO belt is in order. 5/8 x 92, correct? Oh, my deck is 48" Model 317.

Any local stores, manufacturers you gentlemen recommend for the PTO belt? Part number?

Nice Cub you picked up!

I put a new starter in my 1641, used socket head bolts when I installed it.

The 1641 I bought had the threads striped out on the top starter bolt and I ended up using JB weld to put a stud in the block to mount the starter. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=36148 Post #49-#65. It would probably a nightmare to get the starter off with the engine in the tractor but that was all I could come up with.
Tankman, for reasons I can't explain my 1863 and 1641 with 317 decks both use a 5/8 x 90 Huskee belts from tractor supply. I ordered a 5/8 x 92 belt and it was to long. Discussion http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=34143

Thanks Cannon51! I'm goin' to try the 5/8-90 belt, it's on the shelf.
After looking at the pic's in the link you provided, all looks well here.

I'll report how I make out with the 90" length.

Put a Huskee Kevlar 5/8" x 90" belt on early this morning. Works fine and, I like the pulley alignment better (the pair of verticals).

Question? Noise? No bearing noise, deck roars. I'm imagining grass flyin' 10 yards out the chute. Am I insane?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
