How much is too much?
Hi All,
Trying to get the garden ready for the early planting. Using a plow/disc for the first time this year. The disc doesn't seem to be engaging the ground enough to really be doing any good. Added a block to the disc for weight with a bit of improvement but still feel it could be better. How much weight is too much to add? Have an older brinly disc with a sleeve hitch. If I get to the point of too much weight, what a I in danger of breaking? Thanks for the info! Nic

If it's a single gang, I'd say if you can still pick it up your ok. You don't say what tractor you have it on, or whether it's manual or hydraulic lift. If it's hydraulic, you can get it heavy enough that you'll bend the Brinly adapter. If it's manual lift, I doubt you can overload it. It's not going to work as well as a tandem, or as well as a big disk. They just aren't heavy enough to chew up plowed soil. I use mine to level it a bit after plowing and before running the tiller.

I just had 200# of weight on my aerator , plus the aerator itself which is about 80#. So about 280# total, the 1450 lifted it fine, albeit slowly. Nothing broke, but keep in mind I'm using a Hellrung sleeve hitch, ymmv with a stock sleeve hitch. The tractor pulled it fine, although it took all of the 14 hp the K321 has to offer. I think you'll lose traction before you break something.

Using a 1250 with a manual lift. I'll throw more weight on it next time, maybe see where the limits for the 1250 are, and see what results I get.

I had 100lbs on my disk, that's about all I want to try and lift manually! Time to do some cat0 building and hitch adapter!
